Gwyneth Paltrow is a presenter at The Grammys this weekend. She's set on squashing all of those "marriage on the rocks" rumors by showing up at The Grammys to support hubby Chris Martin, to portray herself as the happy and devoted wife and to try to drum up some publicity for the movie she has coming out with Joaquin Phoenix.
What should I say to her if I see her?! Can you imagine me chatting up Gwyneth? I'm sure she would be able to tell I eat fast food and don't exercise the minute she sensed me in the room. I better stay far away from her or she might have me kicked out!
Praising her Coldplay rocker husband Chris Martin for his loyalty, Gwyneth Paltrow also says that her marriage is just fine, thank you.
Speaking to the U.K. edition of Elle, Paltrow admits that she cannot listen to Coldplay's "Swallowed in the Sea" "without crying," because it helped her cope with the loss of her father, Bruce Paltrow, whose October 2002 death left her devastated and depressed.
"It's so hard for me to listen to some of those songs," the Oscar winner says of "Swallowed" and "Fix You." As for Martin, "I'm amazed he stuck with me [at the time her dad died], because I was a wreck. I can't believe that he did."
But stick with her he did, and the couple now have two children: Apple, 4, and Moses, 2.
Despite that, the Martins are dogged with rumors about their marriage, because they are often not seen with each other. As she has said, they simply don't like being photographed on the red carpets arm in arm.
"It doesn't behoove us to be a public couple," adds Paltrow, who'll be a Grammy presenter this weekend.
"He certainly doesn't want to be that. We've never ever walked down a red carpet together, we never will. If people think that that means we're not together, then – ha ha ha! – so be it."
Despite her image as a goody-two-shoes, she speaks of enjoying Guinness stout, red wine – which, she says, makes her "warm and talkative" after a few – and dreams of smoking again one day.
"The last cigarette I smoked was the day I found out I was pregnant with Apple," she says. "I'm so pissed off it gives you cancer. But then, once you have children, if you've witnessed a death like I did with my father, you just can't. But I've decided that when I'm about 70 I'm going to start smoking again. Why not? I can't wait!' "
