Attack At The Forbidden City

Craig and I were just leaving The Forbidden City when yesterday's attack occured. We were unaware of it until late last night and were pretty freaked out. It's weird to think that we were THERE. It doesn't change the way we feel about China and its people - will just remind us to be more aware of our surroundings. We've been feeling so safe. We just need to remember that we're in a huge city where anything can happen.

Yesterday's tour to The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square was really cool - but the heat here is really kicking our asses. I feel like a wimp, but seriously, I've NEVER been this hot in my life.

We're going to take it easy today and go to Women's Gymnastics tonight. Yay air-conditioning! We were so freaking hot at Opening Ceremonies that we had to go leave before it ended. People were keeling over all over the place! Thoroughly enjoyed watching the end of the Ceremony at The St. Regis with all of the Chinese people who worked at the hotel. Grown men were crying and the young women who were waitresses were silently clapping with huge smiles on their faces while wiping away tears as the Chinese flag was raised. It reminded me just how important these games are to China and the pride the people here have.

One random act of violence doesn't change how we feel about our experience here. It simply reminds us that Beijing is a big city like any big city and you always have to be careful.
