As I've been reading the Twilight series I've been hoping they would recast the role of Jacob. I think it's so surprising that Taylor Lautner was cast in the first place given what a prominent roles he plays in all of the subsequent books. He just doesn't fit the bill. As I'm sure you know or have heard, the character of Jacob is very important to the second book in the series. New franchie director, Chris Weitz is said to be looking at several actors for Jacob's role. Looks like the leading contender right now is 26 year-old actor Michael Copon, from Scorpion King 2.
Copon has taken to Facebook to promote himself for the role. His status updates have included "Michael Copon in a Twilight Zone!" and "Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!" His rep confirmed that the Facebook is indeed Copon's.
I think he's really cute and definitely looks more like Jacob should... What do you think?

Well I agree that the kid now is just too baby faced for the role. Jacob is a BIG guy in book 2 on. Its a pretty specific role they have to fill, which can't be easy.
I think this guy is pretty hot. I love the Jacob character and was surprised when I saw the other actor in the role. This guy looks less like Jacob to me though. The other guy looks more American Indian I think. I think the original Jacob is kind of baby faced but Jacob is only 16 in the second book. Either way I don't care that much. It's going to be hard to find someone who physically matches the Jacob from the book, he's almost 7 feet tall! lol
It's tough to say. I understand that the role is pretty specific in the sequels but in general, changing roles in sequels tends to devalue them... It's as if someone were to recast Johnny Depp in PIrates (maybe not that extreme, but to prove a point)... hopefully the switch doen't effect the quality of the following movies, because the first one got great reviews (http://www.everyhype.com/?utm_source=bc) people have high expectations now.
This guy doesn't look very American Indian to me. IDK if you put some long hair on him it would make a world of difference. I just hope that Steven Strait makes it in the series. Why can't they just cast him!

Isnt this guy half filipino?? Jacob is supposed to be native american, and this guy does not look the part. Ill take Steven Strait please, if not than keep Taylor.
