Remember the movie Crash? Of course you do. It won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2006. It's been made into a tv series for Starz! Don Cheadle who starred in and produced the film, is producing the series along with the film's writer-director, Paul Haggis, co-writer-producer Bobby Moresco, and producers Bob Yari, Mark R. Harris, and Tom Nunan. Lionsgate, which distributed the movie, is also co-producing the show along with Starz. It's the first original drama from Starz and it's got a great cast! Dennis Hopper is enthralling as Ben Cendars, a once-successful hip-hop producer who is struggling to get back on top. The series is filled with all of the dark themes that we've come to love from cable programming - sex, drugs and major dysfunction.
I'd be remiss (and scolded by my BFF) if I didn't mention that D.B. Sweeney also co-stars in the series. Women in their 30's will best remember Mr. Sweeney from one of the best chick flicks of all-time The Cutting Edge.
I always have a hard time with new series - especially when there are alot of characters to get to know. I felt the same way about the Crash the movie for the first half. However, I'm going to keep watching. And Starz is making it SO easy for us to watch! Get this, the series premiered on their website today! You can watch it for free at:
www.starz.com/crash and it will premiere on tv on October 17th.
Like I said, Dennis Hopper is great and so is Jocko Sims who plays Hopper's limo driver. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Starz first original show. Check out "Crash" for yourself!
