This is exactly why I Tivo The View everyday! Today there was a big fight over the use of the n-word. I have a hard time with Elisabeth's ignorance. I understand what she's trying to say, but why can't she understand what Whoopi and Sheri are saying? It seems to me that when a white person uses it, it's a weapon to attack someone. When a black person says it it's a figure of speech - often a term of endearment. Am I the only one who thinks that white people should absolutely NOT use it, but black people can make up their own minds? I wish no one used it, but I can only voice my repulsion when people of my own race use it.

I don't think anyone should say it. JMO
I wish no one would say it, as well - but I could understand where Whoopi and Sheri where coming from.
I don't think anyone should say it, but at the same time if it doesn't affect you then why get all worked up about it? It just makes the issue more prominent and heated than it needs to be. If people would stop fighting about it, would it really even be an issue?
You're right, nena.
Yuck. They need to can that shrill show.
Elizabeth was so right. Those other ladies are crazy. I sure don't miss Rosie though.
I don't care for the word, but others can make up their own minds about whether it's ok to use or not.
I really can't stand Elisabeth. I liked her on that season of Survivor, but then she turned into a total nut job.
I am not a fan of Elisabeth's either, but I have to agree on one thing. If we are going to have anyone use words like that, we should also keep using words like;retard, greaser, poor white trash, etc.
Why do we make excuses in our english language for a word with two meanings? One for whites and one for people with a little black left in them?
It's funny that Obama is only half white and they call him "black"? Not in my eyes, he is no purebred and neither is anyone else in this country. We are all Americans.
Im not a fan of the word, but I do see Sheri and whoopies point. Elisabeth goes overboard w/ everything, she takes every issue so personally. I agree that if we didnt make an issue of the word, this controversy would disappear.
When did people stop using words like retard and white trash?
Seriously.
So what about the word redneck? Not exactly the same as the N word, but I think it's similar. It's perfectly fine for Gretchen Wilson to have a song out about how she's a Redneck Woman, but if she were called a redneck by a non-redneck, there'd probably be trouble. Term of endearment? Insult? hmmm.
I don't care for double standards. Either we can all use it or we all leave it alone-which I'd prefer!

I can't stand ElisaBITCH!!! She is a nutcase! With that said, I don't think the word should be used...it makes me cringe when I hear it used. I don't get all worked up and start crying over it, though!

I don't think Elisabeth's crying has anything to do with her being SO upset about the use of the N word. I think she's having a meltdown b/c Whoopi & Sheri are coming down on her and rightfully so. I think she's trying to come off as "Look at me--I'm so altruistic!!" and I personally think it's backfiring on her. Of course I hate 99% of what comes out of her mouth, so this just adds to my dislike of her.
Elizabeth bugs the shit out of me. The "N" word is a very distructive word that should never be used. It even makes me mad when I hear african americans use it. Its a degrating word to me. I just don't like it.
