This is me with my little sister, Amy. It was taken in 1987. Like my acid washed jeans, flats, Liz Claiborne sweater and perm? I was the height of teenage fashion in Clinton, Iowa. Well, at least I thought I was.
I'm sharing this picture with you guys because I need to tell you that I'm going to be MIA for a few days. And I don't want you to be mad! We're going to my parent's house for the 4th of July. But - it's not just about a celebration of our nation's independence. The 4th of July was Amy's birthday. Amy passed away in 1991. She was mentally retarded; she died of brain cancer.
Also, the 4th of July is now the anniversary of when my mom's dog, Maisy got hit by a car and miraculously survived. She is a 9 pound shitzu and she was hit by a car on the highway - and survived! Can you believe it?
I'm going to be partying on the Mississippi River this weekend with my family - remembering Amy, giving thanks for now one-eyed Maisy being with us and generally just being together. There will be drinks, some dancing and a million laughs.
So, I'm going to unplug and spend time with my people. Unless the Jolie-Pitt twins are born. Then you KNOW I'll be here.
