Hip Hop Low Down

I've been hearing about this book that's supposed to blow the lid off of hip hop's gay subculture. It's going to be juicy! Altho, until today I hadn't even considered something that I guess many have. Does your gaydar go off on Kanye West? Rumor has it that he's someone alot of people are speculating might be named in this book.

Reserve your copy today!

Could the hip-hop industry be on the verge of being turned upside down over a scandalous new book?

Looks likes its about to happen.

Nearly two years ago a rumor that a new book talking about the DL gay sub culture in hip-hop was going to be hitting book store by a former MTV executive, Terrence Dean. I remember the story as if it were yesterday. Many people took it as just another salacious story and it wasn’t really picked up on, but I’ll be damned the book is in fact completed and will hit stores on May 13th, 2008.

Here is a snippet of the press release via Loldarian.com

"Hiding In Hip-Hop" uncovers a hidden and well-known unspoken secret. Deep within the confines of Hip-Hop is a prominent gay sub-culture. A world that industry insiders are keenly aware of, but choose to ignore.
According to Dean, "This book is filled with intrigue, sexy celebrity bed partners, abundance of drugs, and of course, the down low/gay men and celebrities in the entertainment industry."

I don’t know about you, but this is my kind of book. Ladies let's hope it turns everybody's "?" into "!". You know I’m going to have my copy on the date of its release. And you know I will keep you posted.

Actually I have thought that about Kanye!

This book sounds like lawsuits waiting to happen. I wonder what kind of proof it will have to back up what it says.

Personally, I don't know whether to cry or yawn. Big deal. Gay is neither sexy nor shameful, people. All's I know is Kanye is not gonna be sexing me or you, so who really cares?

I think the "big deal" is within the hip hop world. As a whole I would say that hip hop has been extremely negative when it comes to gays.

I think it'll be interesting to see if it turns out to rock the community or if it turns out to be nothing.

I'm not sure who the "people" are you're referring to. I don't think I or Marlena have said that being gay is sexy or shameful.

And you don't know Kanye isn't going to be sexing me up! lol I was actually still holding out hope. ;-)

Well obviously if you are reading celeb gossip sites you care! I don't care if Kanye or anyone else is gay, except for my husband, that would suck.

Hee. People is referring to everybody. Sorry about your hope, Nikki! I am reading your blog because you are a friend of a friend of my sister and I have to have at least one place that makes me not completely ignorant of the gossip culture, while being pretty readable. Really, you do a good job. And I am not unaware of the hip hop world, etc. But I'm kinda plugged into conscious hip hop, where, no, teh ghey is not reviled so much. Gots to get away from the gangsta narrative, and plug some holes into the whole corporate view of things for the sake of the younguns.
