Drew Carey and Moby in Chicago on Thursday

My friend Mark had a couple of good celeb sightings last night! He was kind enough to share his experience and photos with us!

Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me (http://www.npr.org/programs/waitwait/), the NPR weekly radio show, featured two big celebrities last night; Drew Carey (the new Price is Right host) and Moby (Eclectic Musician with scores of catchy commercial tunes).

Normally, the weekly taping of Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me has a moderate showing; audience members are more than likely followers of the weekly satirical news show that enjoy host, Peter Sagal’s unique slant on current hot issues. But, this week, news must have leaked that Drew Carey would be a guest panelist, and Moby, the guest celebrity, because hordes of suddenly fans of the Chicago NPR show queued up early to catch sight of last nights famous guests.

The Inside View (Mark Murrell, Nowinchicago.com)
I am quite familiar NPRs Saturday morning show, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, but my mother is a huge fan and happen to be coming for a visit this week and was not about to miss last nights taping.

So, what about the celebrities. Let’s start with Drew Carey, the newly appointed face of the oldest game show in American history, The Price is Right. Drew seemed very mellow and when asked why he was a panelist, he replied, “Well, I love the show, I listen every week, right after Car Talk (two Boston brothers who talk cars for an hour each week.) and I had been on Car Talk a couple of times and I thought it would be cool to be a panelist on Wait Wait. Besides, I only work 3 days-a-week for about 6 hours a day, so I have some time on my hands.” Drew was cool, funny, and quite witty and proved to have some knowledge of what is going on in the national media. All in all, he is down to earth and when I snuck in for a photo he was quite cordial.

How about Moby? We don’t get to learn much about Moby. The most I have seen about Moby has been random MTV interviews, or on Cribs, where he was portrayed as this strange Vegan, hate the world, skinny, bald, white guy with a knack for creating unique scores for commercials (which is how he broke into the mainstream music scene). But, in fact, he is cool, a bit anxious, but smart, crazy smart and had a great wit that mirrored that of Peter Sagal so the two of the spent a lot of time bantering back and forth, quite entertaining. Not sure if this is common knowledge, but Moby used to date Natalie Portman, and when asked what kind of music he listened to while engaged in relations with her, Moby replied, “Romantic music like Pantera or Black Sabbath.” This response created a roar in the crowd.

I love Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. They taped here in SF recently and we were out of town - boo! How fun to get the 'inside scoop!' Drew is funny on TPIR, very casual and low key. And Moby rocks.

I heard the show today. This has become a Saturday morning ritual--breakfast tacos and Wait! Wait! Don't tell me..

The banter between energetic Sagal and self-deprecating Moby was highly entertaining.

At one point in the show Sagal says to Moby: "You are soooo not a rock star!"
